CONTRIBUTED PROGRAM WITH ABSTRACTS (updated May 21, 2013)

The ‘limits of agreement’ method proposed by Martin Bland and Douglas Altman is a statistical technique for comparing the accuracy and precision of two measurement systems. By analyzing the differences between measurements made on a subject by each measurement system, the goal of the technique is to decide whether two systems can be used interchangeably. Although it is widely cited and frequently used in practice, there are problems inherent to the technique that make its application difficult and that can ultimately cause practitioners to be misled. In this talk we explore some of these problems and hence demonstrate the need for a comparison technique which is more generally applicable and effective.
